“Doctors are men who prescribe medicines of which they know little,

to cure diseases of which they know less,

in human beings of whom they know nothing”

An apt post Ruth given your experience of the NHS. Eye opening and so saddening.

Thinking of you xx Auds

Amen! I think mostly they prescribe what the drug companies are promoting and give kick backs on. dot

So VERY true. A species all of their own with very little (if any) compassion or understanding for any other human beings.

Apt quote and photo :o)

I have had, and do have a very good doctor, but I think they develop an air of detatchment to help them cope sometimes. Others are just in the wrong profession.
No wonder homeopaths and naturopaths are becoming so popular. I have always wondered if medicine was an art or a science. Voltaire was very astute.

Like Sheila, we have an excellent doctor, but it is so hit and miss depending on areas.

It is so difficult to make up ones mind over treatments offered. You hear so much nowadays about alternatives to conventional medicine and it is suggested that if you go to such and such a wierd and wonderful place you will get a miraculous cure. But then you hear of very rich people (like Linda McCartney for example) whose money couldn't buy them more effective treatment. So in the end most of us go with what is offered and hope for the best.
When my husband had cancer in 1984 he couldn't have had better treatment from the NHS....once they diagnosed it that is!!!! He had antibiotics for it three times before they worked out what it was! Rather comes back to your quote doesn't it!

Tenderness contains an element of sadness. It is not the sadness of feeling sorry for yourself or feeling deprived, but it is a natural situation of fullness. You feel so full and rich, as if you were about to shed tears. Your eyes are full of tears, and the moment you blink, the tears will spill out of your eyes and roll down your cheeks. In order to be a good warrior, one has to feel this sad and tender heart. Chogyam Trungpa Rinpoche
