Tenderness contains an element of sadness. It is not the sadness of feeling sorry for yourself or feeling deprived, but it is a natural situation of fullness. You feel so full and rich, as if you were about to shed tears. Your eyes are full of tears, and the moment you blink, the tears will spill out of your eyes and roll down your cheeks. In order to be a good warrior, one has to feel this sad and tender heart. Chogyam Trungpa Rinpoche

I do like that quote Ruth!!
That is so so true. I am not a weeper usually (I am one of those irritatingly "up" people), but onions do do it for me!!!! LOL
Ruth, really great quote!
Carl Sandberg had something there! And so do you.
great quote Ruth
Always reminds me of 'Shrek' when they say 'onions have layers'!!!!! So true, some make you cry some don't!!!!!!
I'm going to be contentious - not about the notion in the quote, but because I don't think it is original. Hermann Hesse wrote the same idea, but more eloquently, in, I think, "Steppenwolf": "Man is like an onion, made up of a thousand integuments...",etc. I am pretty sure that Hesse got there first. I have long been a fan of the idea, although I altered it cos I think we are all more like artichokes! SXXXXXXXX
