Tenderness contains an element of sadness. It is not the sadness of feeling sorry for yourself or feeling deprived, but it is a natural situation of fullness. You feel so full and rich, as if you were about to shed tears. Your eyes are full of tears, and the moment you blink, the tears will spill out of your eyes and roll down your cheeks. In order to be a good warrior, one has to feel this sad and tender heart. Chogyam Trungpa Rinpoche

I can never hit bed unless i have turned at least one new page of the book lying on my bed side table
I used to read 5 or 6 books a week. Then I got a computer!
There are lots of schools in the U.S. named for Horace Mann. I can imagine teachers quoting this to their elementary school students, can't you, encouraging them to take up the daily habit of reading and learning.
This brings me back....my booklist!

if i read in bed, i fall asleep. then my glasses are on and then i sleep on them and they break and i can't read again. but i do have this favorite chair where i can sit hunched over at the window on the porch and not fall asleep.
i think i'll pass on reading the sociology books, tho.
